THE TEAM
THE DRIVERS:-
Justin Wheeler
I guess I am the nutter who heard about the Mongol Rally in the middle of June and decided that even though I had less than two months to organise a team and a car that this was something I should really do. Anyway currently 34 years old I turn 35 two days before the rally starts and felt it was about time I left my comfort zone. I don't know the first thing about cars and am incapable of reading a map. It promises to be an amusing journey although I suspect we probably won't get to Mongolia until at least my 40th birthday!
Stephen Longe
Stephen heard what I was trying to do and after much discussion with his work it was decided that he should join us en route from Baku in Azerbaijan on to Mongolia. Time and holidays permitting he will then drive the car back from Mongolia to London via Moscow. He is a hot-shot for Mercedes in Germany and We are hoping that we will all be flying back first class courtesy of the commission from all the Mercedes deals he will be doing with various succesful businessmen on the way. Please click on my name to read a short personal statement.
Henry Chance
Henry is my brother and having done his bit to ensure the conservative party were elected in his local constituency at the last election is now in the luxurious position of being in between jobs. He has kindly offered to help ensure I get to Turkey in one piece. He is a veteran of long drives around Europe in cars in varying states of repair. This combined with his gift of the gab will ensure that we will either be waved through borders quite quickly or be locked up in solitary confinement for the rest of our lives... We are desperately hopeful that it will be the former!
I am still looking for someone to come with me from Istanbul to Baku in Azerbaijan so if anyone is interested do let me know!
Sadly I don't think any of us speak or read a word of Russian, understand the first thing about mechanics or have much map reading experience... Anyone who lives along the way and feels like giving us some route guidance would I think make us all very happy!
Finally we are still looking for a good name for our team. I understand the Citroen 2CV is known as the Duck in Germany, and the Snail in the UK. Anyway if you can come up with a good name that would be pretty useful as the car is now being sign written... If you can come up with a suitably funky one I shall be most grateful and will try and find a suitable sponsor to give you something nice... otherwise you can have a cheap bottle of plonk! Again do email usany suggestions!
